Tuesday. April 27th - The Grande Tour

I can’t believe how much we packed into a single day! To make the most of our time and losing a day due to the Labour Day (May 1st) holiday, we booked a private tour through DriverGuideFrance.com. Christophe, our driver/ guide, prepared a custom itinerary that included a Paris city tour in the morning and the afternoon at Versailles. He also picked us up at our front door.

The Paris tour included the Notre Dame (private guided tour), Montmartre (Van Goth’s house, windmills, Moulin Rouge). I’m a HUGE fan of the movie Ameiie. We stopped in front of the café in Montmartre where Amelie worked. I rolled down the window and called out “Amelie” the two older gentlemen sitting outside the café looked a bit confused.

The Paris tour also included the Arch D’ Triumph. Napoleon’s Tomb, Invalides, Trocadero and Champs Elysees. We viewed the architecture of the Louvre, Musee D’Orsay and loads of other wonderful buildings I can’t remember. We drove across my favorite bridge (the Alexander III). I think it is the world’s most beautiful bridge.

The Versailles tour included gardens, main building / hall of mirrors Marie Antoinette’s cottage, the Queen’s mother’s house (farm).

Our tour was all we’d hoped for and then some. Christopher was a wonderful blend of a knowledgeable, historian personable, helpful and adaptive (which is especially valuable when you have a 7 year-old).
